ISM's Purchasing Managers Index 1948–2012 Purchasing Managers' Indexes ( PMI ) are economic indicators derived from monthly surveys of private sector companies. The PMI ® is a composite index based on the diffusion indexes of five of the indexes with equal weights: New Orders (seasonally adjusted), Production (seasonally adjusted), Employment (seasonally adjusted), Supplier Deliveries (seasonally adjusted), and Inventories. Index was 53.7, down 1.0, and Forecast was 58.5, down 1.9 but both still in expansion territory. The May NAPM-WW Index was steady, but forecasted to fall.
